Welcome Weinstein!

November 18th, 2008

TCI is honored to announce that Mr. Howard Weinstein will be on board as consultant for 2009 (and beyond!).

A native of Central Florida, Mr. Weinstein has “bloomed where he was planted” with consistent excellence and accomplishments in the state of Florida and nationally as recent Director of the Boston Crusaders and current Director of the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps.

“I have truly admired the work of the educators and designers at Timber Creek Independent.  With my background in the marching arts, alignment of my educational philosophies, and a desire to be involved in the indoor drumline activity, I am thrilled to be apart of TCI. They are a class act, on and off the performance floor” offered Weinstein.

Walker shared “This is crazy. Good crazy. With an all-star like Howard on board, and believing in what we are doing, sharing his knowledge, time and energy - we are excited and grateful.”

Steel Drums & Drumsets & Synths: Oh My.

November 17th, 2008

The 2009 installment of TCI holds a variety of opportunities for ALL. In addition to the traditional battery (snares, tenors, bass drums) and frontline (marimbas, vibes, bells), we are fielding:

  • marching ride cymbals: a 21st Century cymbal line that carries a single cymbal in the left, and various sticks/brushes/mallets in the right
  • drumsets: both an acoustic and electronic drumset will help recreate the authentic sound of Radiohead
  • steel drums: lead pans mic’d
  • synthesizers: we have the gear to field as many as we have talented folks interested
  • bass guitar
  • electric guitar(s)
  • vocal soloist: male tenor “Thom Yorke” sound-a-like

Beyond the standard arsenal of instruments, you and your friends will have a wide range of creative and meaningful options to participate, and the audience will have a new standard of sound. See you on the 13th.

TCI 2009: Videotape

October 8th, 2008

TCI 2009: Videotape

From the minds that designed The Way Up comes TCI’s 2009 program Videotape.

Inspired by the music and revolutionary spirit of Radiohead, the source music again lets TCI echo the intent of the original artists, and allows the audience to draw a personal conclusion as to the content of their ultimate videotape.

Featuring music from the albums OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, and In Rainbows, TCI wanted to create a show based on introspection that is at times deep and pensive, and at other times is a refutation of social technology.  We want to re-create the intrusion and pervasiveness of new media, video cameras and the constant threat and accountability of being captured on film.

The visual program is influenced by the art of Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke.  The show introduces a vocal soloist, an innovative 21st-Century cymbal line, and brings back the world class percussion ensemble while incorporating interactive, online and web-based content.

What will be on your VIDE_O /TAP E?

TCI and SABIAN

October 8th, 2008

In our continual efforts to take it up another notch in 2009, we are very excited to announce a win-win partnership with Sabian. TCI will be exclusively using and endorsing Sabian cymbals, sounds, and gongs. On the court, this will bring our program to life, serve the members with the very best gear available, and treat the audience to the very best SOUNDS available. TCI + Sabian = ear candy.

21st Century Cymbals

October 8th, 2008

As English philosopher and catalyst of the 17th  century’s scientific revolution, Sir Francis Bacon stated, “There is no excellent beauty that hath not some strangeness in the proportion.”

Enter the 21st century TCI “Media Rides.” The 2009 ensemble will be auditioning for and fielding 4 to 6 marching ride-style cymbals that will bring the authentic feel and essence of Radiohead to life, and add yet another unique twist to the overall production. Local drumset superstar and Lake Howell/UCF drumline alumni Ryan Dixon will not only oversee this critical layer to the show, but ensure these individuals enjoy the full educational performance experience available to all sections. As he eloquently paraphrased Bacon in third person, “Those Media Rides: Beautiful. That Dixon: Strange and charming.”

At times, this 21st century line will march the plates, while at other times create the visual themes of the show through creative and media-based means. Radiohead + Sabian + Dixon + YOU = TCI Revolution. “This ain’t your Grandma’s cymbal line”.

T. Seay. I.

September 22nd, 2008

We are excited to announce that Central Florida bass drum phenom, John Seay, is back for a second tour of duty with TCI in 2009. A large part of the 2008 success, John is back alongside other returning veteran staff like Mike McIntee, Jeff Wright, Matt Verburg, Brian Baldauff, Pat Seidling, Michael James and Clif Walker. Like minded and equally crazy.  Consistence - Seay.
